About Marcus

I am a second physics student at UCL in London. Outside term time, I live in Norfolk, which is where I graduated my A-levels with 3 A*s (maths, physics, economics), plus A* in an extended quantitative project.

I feel confident relating subjects to their real-world applications, which can sometimes help to motivate learning. Outside of my studies, I enjoy working on technological projects and competing in athletics.

I am DBS disclosed and have necessary proof of qualifications.

About the lesson

I have 3 years’ experience tutoring, working with 3 GCSE students and 1 younger student each week during my A-levels.

To make our sessions as effective as possible, I often focus on the core knowledge supporting the student's classwork. This is an approach I have developed working with teachers in high schools. In school classes, teachers often cannot spend enough time on fundamental concepts, but this is more achievable when working directly with students. Then, instead of just memorising their examined content, students gain a full understanding that allows them to learn further content much faster. From my feedback, this momentum even continues after our sessions, in later courses.

I typically run 1-hour sessions although I am flexible with times and scheduling. In the first session, I find it useful to assess the student’s understanding with some prepared questions. We also review the solutions. Each session afterward then covers a subject area and provides opportunity to practise the content.
