About Michael
I’m a second year PhD student at UCL working on education economics and labour markets. I have taught microeconomics and macroeconomics for about 100 second year students – and would like to share this experience with you.
I previously received a 1st class degree from Cambridge, a distinction from the Toulouse School of Economics, and worked in economic consulting.

I teach students at all levels of preparation, from students learning the content for the first time, to those drilling the most challenging exam questions.
There are a few key tenets of my Economics teaching.
First, to focus on the core ideas on which the rest of the material hangs. Students who grasp these ideas will find additions, modifications and nuances come easily to them. Economics is built on only a few principles – equilibrium, marginal changes, optimisation and opportunity cost. I ensure that my students’ understanding of economic models rests on these principles so that new concepts will look like variations of what they’ve seen before.
Second, to create mappings between the ‘languages’ in which you can do economics. Economics is about turning intuitive common sense stories into mathematical and graphical reasoning. Rather than staying in one of these languages and forcing a single mode of understanding, I teach students to jump across them. At the end of a lesson students will be able to tell a story for every equation they’ve come across.
Finally, I find that students learn best when they are working at a gentle stretch. Working within their ability is unproductive and working far beyond it is demoralising. To this end, I spend time solving challenging problems with the students, rather than reciting answers to them or watching them work in silence.

Perfect! I worked with Michael regularly to strengthen my understanding of econometrics and its applications, and he’s absolutely amazing. He explains everything in great detail, making complex ideas easy to grasp, and I’ve learned a great deal thanks to him.
Michael is incredibly knowledgeable, always provides helpful resources, and is super responsive—he never left a question unanswered. If you’re looking for a tutor in economics, he’s a must-choose.- See the response Michael :
