I am currently a Chemistry student at UCL, and I have always been passionate about sharing my love for science and maths with younger students. My journey with teaching began during my own GCSE years, when I started helping classmates understand difficult topics. This experience sparked my enthusiasm for teaching, and I’ve since had the privilege of tutoring GCSE students in both sciences and maths. Seeing the “aha” moments when a student finally grasps a challenging concept is incredibly rewarding, and it’s what drives my commitment to tutoring.
In my tutoring experience, I have worked with students studying under different exam boards, including AQA, Edexcel, and OCR. I make sure to understand the specific requirements of each board, as well as the types of questions students are likely to encounter. This knowledge allows me to guide students through key topics, emphasizing the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in their exams. I enjoy going beyond rote memorization, focusing instead on building a solid understanding of the concepts. By relating the material to real-life examples, I aim to make science and maths more engaging and accessible for students.
My approach to tutoring is individualized and student-centered. I begin by identifying areas where each student is struggling, breaking down these topics into smaller, manageable steps. By explaining concepts in bite-sized sections, I help students gradually build their understanding and confidence. I regularly check in to ensure they are comfortable with the material, and I adjust my teaching style to match their learning pace. To reinforce what we cover in our sessions, I set targeted homework assignments that allow students to apply what they’ve learned, turning new knowledge into long-term understanding.
Ultimately, my goal as a tutor is to create a supportive and positive learning environment where students feel encouraged to ask questions and explore their curiosity. I believe that every student has the potential to excel when given the right guidance and motivation. Teaching has been a deeply fulfilling experience for me, and I am dedicated to helping students achieve their academic goals while fostering a genuine interest in science and maths. I look forward to continuing this journey, sharing my knowledge, and making a positive impact on the students I work with.
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the tutor.
I have previously been tutored by alisha and have found her to be very helpful as she would explain concepts thoroughly. She would adapt her teaching methods to suit my understanding and matched the pace that I best worked at so that I was not overwhelmed and could digest the information well. She taught me how to manage my time well during exams and the best way to approach exam questions. Through her support, I really started to see improvements in my results and found the most efficient way to revise that got me the grades that I needed. I definitely recommend her!
