About Zoe
I am a tutor and trainee teacher from the North-East with two years experience in tutoring English online, specifically students preparing for SATS, GCSEs, A-levels, and Scottish Highers. My passion for English as well as for helping students achieve their potential is what motivates me as a tutor. Not only do I aim to help my students succeed, but I also think it's important to make the subject enjoyable.
I have a BA degree in English literature with creative writing and a Master's in English literature, both from Newcastle University. I am currently studying for a teaching qualification (PCET PGCE) in further education at the University of Sunderland.
I have studied English literature and creative writing to Master's degree level, I love to use what I have learnt about the subject and qualifications to help my students.
Over the last two years, I have gained in-person teaching experience as a mentor for college students with special educational needs. More recently, I have been teaching English at a sixth form for my placement. From these experiences, I have developed an interest in the psychology of learning and adapting my teaching methods for different learning styles. As I am neurodivergent myself, I prioritise making learning accessible for students with learning differences such as ADHD, autism, and dyslexia.
Through my experiences, I have also gained a thorough understanding of the exam boards for GCSE and A-level English language and English literature. This allows me to break down the mark scheme so that my students know exactly what is expected of them and create lesson plans around hitting the criteria.

I am a passionate and supportive tutor specialising in English for all levels and qualifications. My philosophy as a tutor is to personalise each session and accommodate the needs and learning styles of my students as much as possible.
As your tutor, I can help you with any English related subject, including English language, literature, media and film studies, essay writing, spelling, punctuation, and grammar, and creative writing. I tutor students at all ages, qualifications, and abilities to help them achieve their goals with the subject. Typically, my lessons are one hour long but I can adjust this to your preference.
As I specialise in English literature, I have studied many classic texts from an academic viewpoint. Therefore, I can help familiarise you with the texts you are studying and help you uncover hidden meaning, analyse language, and understand the historical context it was written in. I can also teach you the art of essay writing, such as how to structure your essays and write in timed exam conditions so that you can present your ideas coherently on the page.
As well as English literature, I have studied drama and media studies at GCSE and A-level. I can therefore use my experiences to help students currently studying these three subjects.
Ultimately, my aim as a tutor is to help my students overcome anxiety and unleash their potential by equipping them with study methods that will help them, not only succeed, but enjoy the subject.
