About Melodious

Hi! I'm Jerusha. I'm a musician, a lifelong student of music, and an aspiring artist with a dream of creating music of my own and sharing it with the world.

Music has always been a significant part of my life. My father is a music teacher, so I've grown up watching him teach, interact with students, and help people discover their musical abilities. Over the years, I've come to appreciate the qualities that make a good teacher: patience, consistency, the ability to explain things in different ways, and, most importantly, a genuine interest in seeing students grow. Those are the qualities I hope to bring into my own classes.

I'm a Grade 8 Trinity pianist and Rock & Pop vocalist, and I also hold a Grade 6 Trinity qualification in Rock & Pop Bass. Musically, I'm inspired by a wonderfully diverse range of artists, from The Beatles and Led Zeppelin to Kendrick Lamar, Aretha Franklin, and Whitney Houston. I love exploring different genres and discovering what makes each artist unique, and I hope to share that curiosity with my students, too.

As a teacher, I'm patient, friendly, and perhaps a little bit of a perfectionist! I pay attention to the little details because I believe they can make a real difference to a musician's development. At the same time, I understand that everyone learns differently, and I never want my students to feel intimidated by the learning process. Mistakes are welcome in my classes; they're simply opportunities to understand something better.

My lessons combine technical exercises, practical learning, and conversations about music. Whether we're working on a tricky passage, learning a new song, understanding musical notation, or discussing why a particular artist changed the way we listen to music, I want our time together to be engaging and meaningful. If you'd like to follow the Trinity syllabus, I'm happy to structure our lessons around it, too.

So, whether you've always wanted to learn piano, explore Western vocals, pick up an instrument for the first time, or simply understand music a little better, I'd be delighted to be part of your journey. Let's make learning music something we genuinely look forward to!

My approach to teaching music combines structured learning, personalized exercises, practical application, and an appreciation for music as an art form. Every student learns differently, so I adapt my teaching methods to their individual needs, goals, pace, and interests.

Each hourly session is divided into three parts:
1. Warm-ups and technical exercises (15–20 minutes): We begin with exercises designed to develop technique, coordination, control, accuracy, and confidence, depending on the instrument or skill being learned.
2. Learning and application (20–30 minutes): We work on a new song, develop a particular skill, explore music theory, or combine all three. I use visual explanations and notes to help students understand musical notation and reading. Students who wish to follow the Trinity syllabus can also work towards that goal.
3. Exploring music and artists (remaining time): We discuss musicians, songs, musical styles, and the ideas behind them. I believe understanding the music we listen to helps us become more thoughtful and expressive musicians ourselves.

What makes my classes different?

I follow a lesson plan while remaining flexible enough to accommodate each student's strengths and difficulties. I introduce targeted exercises to help students work through challenging techniques, and I use a patient, encouraging approach to help them progress with confidence.

I take each student's development seriously and am committed to helping them reach their individual potential. My aim is not simply to teach students how to play a piece or sing a song, but to help them understand what they are doing and why.

Who are my classes for?

I welcome beginners and aspiring musicians aged 10 and above, including school students, college students, and adults. Whether you are learning your first song, exploring an instrument for the first time, improving your vocal technique, or following a structured Trinity course, I aim to make every lesson engaging, purposeful, and rewarding.

My goal is to help students grow not only in skill, but also in confidence, curiosity, and appreciation for music.
