I use a classically Socratic approach to teaching. The first phase is to ask diagnostic questions to determine the student's current knowledge level and learning style.
There are several worked examples shown to the student to demonstrate the principles taught and their application.
There is a second question phase to determine that the student has enough fluency to explain the topic in their own words.
