About Riya

I am a high-achieving and dedicated Canberra Girls Grammar School Year 12 student with a strong passion for education and academic excellence. Throughout my schooling, I have consistently achieved top results across a range of subjects, receiving multiple academic awards each year. I especially understand the requirements of success in modern high school education and the challenges students face, as I have navigated the same curriculum and assessment expectations myself very recently.

I am currently studying Double Specialist Mathematics (the highest BSSS mathematics course) and have been recognized for my strengths in English, including receiving the CGGS Anne Coutts Cup for Creative Writing. I have also achieved recognition in the National History Challenge essay competition and the International Chemistry Quiz. I perform strongly in a wide range of subjects and am confident in teaching anything within Math, Science, English, or Humanities.

As a tutor, I am professional, reliable, and well-prepared. I aim to create a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, building confidence, and developing independence in their learning. I take pride in being patient, approachable, and genuinely invested in each student’s progress.

I am particularly well-suited to supporting Years 7–10 students, and can assist Year 11 students in selected subjects following discussion. My goal is not only to help students improve academically, but also to equip them with skills and strategies that will benefit them throughout their schooling.

About the lesson

I am a high-achieving high school student who has consistently received academic awards and topped multiple subjects simultaneously since the beginning of high school in 2021. I currently study Double Specialist Mathematics (the highest BSSS mathematics course) and have received multiple English awards, including the CGGS Anne Coutts Cup for Creative Writing. I am genuinely passionate about education and believe my firsthand experience navigating high school assessments, expectations, and study strategies allows me to tutor in a way that is both relatable and effective.

I offer online tutoring sessions of 30 minutes or 1 hour, as well as in-person tutoring for 1 hour sessions, depending on student preference and needs.

My lessons are suitable for high school students in Years 7–10, with the option to tutor Year 11 students in selected subjects, depending on individual needs and discussion.

My approach to tutoring is centered on understanding, skill-building, and long-term academic improvement. I focus on explaining concepts in a way tailored to each student, so students genuinely understand the material and can apply it independently, rather than memorising answers. When working through classwork and previous assessments, I emphasise providing constructive and reflective feedback, helping students identify patterns in their mistakes and understand how to improve in future tasks. I believe this is the key to academic improvement and independence over time.

Once core understanding is established, I place strong emphasis on assessment success. I offer personalised advice, subject-specific tips and tricks, tailored study plans, curated resources, and targeted practice exercises, all of which I mark and review in detail. These strategies are ones I have developed and refined throughout my own schooling and have directly contributed to my strong academic results.
