About Mariam

I have a First Class BSc in Business Management as well as a Distinction in International Financial Management MSc; both from a Russell Group University. Recently, I secured a graduate role with an international telecommunications firm. After my masters I began my foundation Loophole as a way of giving back and helping students derive the best from their studies; support that I felt was absent while trying to navigate through further education. I did so with the sole intention of guiding young students and teaching them skills such as confidence, public speaking and critical thinking- skills not explicitly taught in schools.
Since starting, I have had the opportunity to work with a vast array of students (females, males, dyslexic students, older students, diverse students) who have studied a variety of subjects at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, such as Gender and Politics, Graphics and Cyber Security.
These varying experiences have further developed my communication skills and have made me more comfortable in addressing different groups of students. For instance, when working with one of my dyslexic students, I found that putting arguments into contexts that were interesting to that student really helped them grasp the writing structure for arguments. This in turn has enhanced my ability to be creative and think on my feet, whilst still being relateable in the student's eyes.
My very first student received a first class in her dissertation, after returning from a placement year. One of my masters students came to me with 2:2 grades in January and after just 2 months of working together, she is now achieving distinctions in her courseworks; we are now currently working on her dissertation.

About the lesson

Alongside mentoring students and assisting them with their job searches (CV and cover letter editing, recommendations of job search engines, psychometric test guidance, interview prep, confidence guidance and public speaking to name a few), I also tutor both Undergraduate and Postgraduate students who are local or international students. I specialise in academic writing for essay coursework and provide additional dissertation tutoring/supervision. I always encourage my students to aim high for top grades and assist in the interpreting of University grade criteria. Subsequently, my teaching approach is based around strategic working and critical thinking. I learnt that University is not simply about being smart, but about working smart and that is what enabled me to achieve the top grades that I did; particularly in my final year when I thought all hope was lost. I work from home, but am able to meet up should you prefer and I don't like to be seen as a teacher- rather a support buddy! I always try to relate with my students and encourage them to be honest about their goals so we can work together in enabling you to achieve them! The last student I worked with called me in panic mode with a few minutes left till her deadline and after calming her down, we got to work- so I am reliable and try to be with you every step of the way through the good and bad.

Details

Depending on where you live, I may be able to travel to you. However, transportation expenses must be covered (separate from tuition fee); please ask first. Regardless of whether it is for an online/over the phone/face to face lesson, cancellations must be made at least 48 hours in advance. Failure to do so will incur a cancellation fee equivalent to half of the total fee charged for the cancelled lesson, or equivalent to the full fee charged for the cancelled lesson if cancellation is made en route.
