About Lin

Hello, my name is Lin and I am a third-year English major at York University. I transferred internationally from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies in Seoul, South Korea to York three years ago. My current GPA is 8.88 and many of my professors have recommended my essays to the university's essay awards. I am a diligent and proactive tutor, and most confident in my essay writing skills and literary understanding. I worked as a Peer Leader for EN1001 and EN1002 during the academic year of 2021-2022. My position included preparing resources and facilitating weekly Peer-Assisted Study Sessions for the students, which helped me develop adaptability and creativity in my teaching methods. I have two years of private tutoring experience and a year of English teaching volunteering experience from Korea. As I am preparing to apply to Teachers College in the near future, I'm passionate about tutoring new students and help improving their writing or reading skills

About the lesson

I am an enthusiastic and approachable tutor who can build a great relationship with my students by listening to their specific academic concerns and coming up with effective solutions for each individual. I can guide a student from learning the basics of essay-writing to writing more advanced or complex essays with study materials created from my own experience of learning. As a person whose first language is not English, I am capable of providing exceptional aid in developing English writing skills of students who are new to Canada.

My typical lesson plan would differ according to the level and preference of each student. The first lesson will be provided without charge and it will be a time for the student and I to get to know each other. My primary aim in the first lesson is to thoroughly understand the student's level of English and writing so that I can plan our future lessons accordingly. I will provide the student with a rough lesson plan in about a week from our first meeting, which will be a valuable resource for them to decide if I am a good fit for their academic goals.
