About Chiara
I have two degrees in international relations: my BA is from the University of San Diego, and my MA is from the Johns Hopkins University's School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS). I graduated with Honors in both cases.
Within international relations, my specialty is in contemporary energy security. I have also studied the Asia-Pacific and Russia.
At the moment, I'm a Policy Research Fellow at the Edwin O. Reischauer Center for East Asian Studies, where I'm currently helping the director with a book manuscript covering Japanese political economy.

As someone with both a bachelor's and a master's degree in international relations, I'm the friend and family member those in my life come to when they want to understand what's going on in the news or a current event. Formal education in international relations means I've been trained in theory, research, and history, and yes, of course, I am caught up in international news.
Depending on what kinds of skills you want to develop or what interests you, with me you can learn to synthesize current affairs developments and present them in a briefing or memo, dive deeper into the people and institutions and ideologies driving current affairs to understand them better, or apply international relations theory to situations to understand how aides and advisors think about their options and recommend a response to a policymaker.
I have previous experience teaching kids in grades 6-12, but I would recommend this for someone who is studying international relations in college or for adult learners.
Along the way, you'll pick up skills in media literacy and writing. These just come with the territory!
