About Eswari
To my future students, I don’t know you yet, but I think you’re wonderful and brilliant. I believe all of you have unique interests and gifts to share with the world, and I want to help you show everything you’ve got. I don’t know you yet, but I think you’re talented and I know you’ll go on to do big things with your life. Some of you will want to be doctors, and some of you will want to work in law. Meanwhile, others will want to make a difference by becoming teachers or police officers. Of course, others of you still will accomplish many and more varied things besides what I’ve listed previously. But [pullquote position="right"]no matter what it may be, your goals and ambitions have value.[/pullquote] Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. I haven’t met you yet, but I know you can do anything you put your mind to. I know you will have big ideas, and sometimes people will tell you not to bother with them, because what good will it do? But I know that they’re wrong, that life is nothing without taking chances, and that the world is already sad enough without us believing that you can’t make the future a little brighter for us. I haven’t met you yet, but I know your journey is worth it in the end. I know it will be a hard path, with many nights staying up late doing homework and studying, all the while taking care of your family, worrying about how to best make them proud—and having fun, just like all kids should. You don’t know me yet, but I don’t want you to make the same mistakes I did. I want you to be proud to love books and not be ashamed when you prefer reading books to watching TV. And [pullquote]I don’t want you to believe you can’t learn something just because you’re not good at it at first.[/pullquote] You don’t know me yet, but I want you to know I will always support you. When someone tells you that you can’t learn something, or you’re too lazy or not smart enough to be the top of your class or to make it into your dream university, know I’ll fight to help you make your dreams come true. You haven’t met me yet, but I will always be on your side. Even when it seems like no one else is (because it will be seem that way sometimes!)—during those times where it feels like you can’t count on your parents, siblings or friends—simply turn around, and I will be by your side. We haven’t met yet, but I know what you’re going through. I understand the disappointment and dejection you feel when adults discourage you, or when other kids make you feel terrible for just being different. I get the pressure to be the best person you can be, but at the same time, being your own person and discovering how you want to make your mark on the world. We haven’t met yet, but [pullquote position="right"]I know what it’s like to have a teacher who makes you feel like nothing you do is good enough.[/pullquote] And it hurts, and it’s a terrible thing to go through. But I also know what it feels like to have your life changed by a teacher who encourages you and knows you can accomplish anything, because they see your potential. It’s one of the best feelings around. We haven’t met yet, but I believe nothing is going to stop you from your dreams. I believe in you. Love, Your future teacher

9. Let your excitement come through
Students need to see a teacher that is excited to see them succeed. Don’t be afraid to crank up the music or bring out some games to celebrate your students’ success.
10. Show students their own success
Don’t just tell your students they did well. Show them why they succeeded, so they can repeat the success again.
11. Create an “Encouragement Wall”
Set out a place in your room or virtual classroom that showcases what success looks like. Make sure something from every student is included.
12. Get students actively involved
Find activities that get every student involved; it shows them that you believe in them and helps build their confidence.
13. Look back to move forward
Sometimes it can be encouraging to see how far you’ve come. Remind students of what they have been through, overcome, and succeeded at. This helps them see what’s possible and keep a positive outlook.
14. Know their interests
Making your lessons relatable to what your students are interested in, is a great way to encourage and engage them. They will be motivated and inspired to keep learning.
15. Validate and be honest
When students share, validate their contributions. Model honesty with your students to show them respect and create a sense of trust. This helps to create an environment where students can feel safe, supported and encouraged.
