As I am new to teaching, I don't have a particular methodology per se, but I think I wouldn't waste my time neither the student's cause I'm getting paid for this and I have to do justice for the student. I would just try and make sure of what the student is capable of, assess him/her and teach in a way that is comfortable for us both.
