  • 1) Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?

Being a native Korean speaker, I naturally grew up immersed in the language. However, my true love for Korean deepened when I started teaching my little sister at a young age. That experience sparked my desire to help others learn, and over time, teaching became my greatest passion.
  • 2) Can you name a living, historical, or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

One iconic figure who represents Korean culture and language is King Sejong the Great. He is the visionary behind Hangul, Korea's unique writing system, which was created to make reading and writing accessible to all. His legacy continues to shape the beauty and accessibility of the Korean language today.
  • 3) Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition, or behavior in the language that you particularly like?

One of my favorite Korean expressions is '정' (jeong)-a word that is deeply rooted in Korean culture. It's difficult to translate directly, but it refers to a strong emotional bond and a sense of warmth, care, and connection between people. Whether among friends, family, or even strangers, 'jeong' is what makes Korean culture so rich in human connection.
  • 4) Why does speaking this language matter to you?

Korean is more than just a language to me-it's a bridge that connects me to people all over the world. Through teaching, I get to share Korea's rich history, traditions, and unique expressions, allowing students to experience the true essence of the language beyond grammar and vocabulary. Helping learners grow in Korean means I'm also sharing a part of my identity and culture, which is incredibly fulfilling.

I believe that without this language, I wouldn't have been able to build meaningful friendships and connections across the globe. Learning a language is a journey, and while it may eventually reach a point where students feel fluent, the relationships built through it never fade. Communication is at the heart of human connection, and for me, speaking Korean is not just about understanding words-it's about sharing stories, emotions, and building lifelong bonds.

This is why teaching Korean matters so much to me. It's not just about helping someone master a skill-it's about creating connections that transcend borders and keeping language alive through relationships.
  • 5) What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

One of the biggest challenges learners face is understanding the complex honorific system, which requires knowing when and how to adjust speech depending on formality and hierarchy. To master this, I recommend immersing yourself in Korean dramas, daily conversations, and consistent practice with native speakers-it makes grasping these nuances much easier.
  • 6) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

My journey as a language teacher began far earlier than I ever imagined-when I was just six years old. At the time, my biggest student was my little sister, two years younger than me. Determined to teach her the Korean alphabet, I took my role very seriously. I even gave her homework assignments and saved my pocket money to buy a notebook just for her studies. I felt proud, as if I were running my own mini classroom.

One day, I carefully wrote out her homework and handed it to her before heading off to preschool. I imagined her diligently practicing, ready to impress me when I returned. But when I got home, I excitedly checked her progress-only to find she hadn't done a single thing! Frustrated and disappointed, I stormed off to tell my mum, expecting her to set things right. But instead of scolding my sister, my mum simply smiled and said, "Teaching isn't about forcing someone to learn-it's about making them want to."

That moment stuck with me, shaping the way I teach today. Years later, when I saw my sister confidently read her first full sentence in Korean, I realized something important: learning isn't just about memorization; it's about inspiration. That's the lesson I carry into every class, hoping to spark that same excitement in my students, just as I once tried with my little sister.
  • 7) How has travel or a specific trip helped you increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

While I grew up speaking Korean, traveling abroad gave me a new perspective on my own language. Seeing international learners struggle with pronunciation or grammar helped me develop teaching strategies to make Korean more accessible. It also made me realize just how much global interest there is in Korean culture, which motivates me to teach even more.
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof in language?

I'm a Superprof because I make learning engaging, interactive, and deeply cultural! I don't just teach words-I teach the soul and rhythm of the Korean language, weaving together modern pop culture with Korea's rich traditions to create an experience that truly immerses students in the language.

With over 15 years of teaching experience, I've had the privilege of working with students from all over the world. Throughout my career, I've developed unique teaching methods that adapt to each learner's individual needs, goals, and preferred styles. Everyone learns differently-some thrive through structured lessons, while others flourish through conversation-based or visual learning techniques. That's why I personalize every lesson, ensuring that each student's learning journey feels natural, enjoyable, and effective.

To make this experience as engaging as possible, I utilize a variety of textbooks, digital tools, and interactive materials, helping students build fluency while developing a deeper connection to Korean culture. Whether it's mastering Hangul, refining pronunciation, or diving into the nuances of Korean expressions, my approach guarantees progress with confidence.

At the core of my teaching philosophy is a genuine love for sharing language and culture, combined with a passion for meeting people from around the world. Teaching isn't just about instruction-it's about inspiration, and I strive to make every lesson an exciting step toward fluency.
