I like a straight forward approach of explaining the why behind the math. If you know the why, you can apply what you know to any situation. After that we look at the nuts and bolts of doing the problems. We can look at multiple ways to accomplish the task at hand. My extensive experience in the classroom has allowed me to experience all of the misconceptions students have and confront them right away.
