I am available for in person and online lessons. I am also offering group online lessons for 50%. During Covid-19 all sessions are online.

Hello, I’m Susie and I am an art graduate, currently working in London/Cheltenham/Cambridge both as an artist and teacher/tutor. Since graduating from the Glasgow School of Art in 2010 I have been working as a professional artist; I just received my masters in sculpture from the Royal College of Art in June 2019. Alongside this I am an experienced teacher.

I aim to be a very motivational tutor, trying to be as positive as possible and I try to minimise stress levels by being calm and approachable.

I tailor each lesson to my student's individual needs and have experience working with a wide range of age groups. I am flexible with the times and locations I can work.

I have a PTLLS qualification for teaching in the lifelong learning sector and I also have a CELTA.

I tutor a range of subjects- please see below for more information.

English as a foreign language-
I am a CELTA qualified teacher. I have been teaching since 2010 in language teaching institutions and private tutoring. I have taught in schools and 1-1. I can teach IELTS, PET, CAE, CPE and general English.

Art and Design/Art History-
I also have a number of years of experience teaching art and art history. I taught for a number of years on the foundation art course at St. Andrews College in Cambridge. This involved teaching art and history of art.

I have tutored students in art at pre university and university level. I have helped with UCAS statements, essays, with the preparation of portfolios and interview practice. My interview practice experience includes Oxbridge preparation.

I am an associate lecturer at The University of Gloucestershire. I have also led sessions guest lecturing at the University of Cambridge in the history of art department and the Judge Business School. I have been a visiting lecturer at Goldsmiths University, Anglia Ruskin University, University of Brighton, Camberwell University of the Arts, London, University of Creative Arts, Falmouth University, University of Bedfordshire and Westminster University.

I work on weekends throughout the year as an artist educator at the Fitzwilliam Museum and other university museums on behalf of Cambridge University. I have assisted with workshops at the Royal British Society of Sculptors and led workshops with Access Arts.

I have taught young people and adults of all ages from varied backgrounds and diverse cultures.

I am a professional artist and balance my teaching/lecturing work with running my own studio, creating works for exhibitions in galleries and public and private commissions.

Design Technology/ Product Design
I have also tutored design and technology GCSE and A level to a number of students since 2010. I studied A-level DT myself and AS Level textiles so I have a good idea of what is involved for both the coursework and the exam. I have prepped students for a number of different exam boards.

My own creative work involves a lot of the processes studied on this course- using CAD/CAM such as laser cutting and CNC milling, digital printing and ceramic, metal, wood, glass and plastic fabrication.

Photography/Photoshop/Video Editing
I have experience teaching how to take and to edit photographs. I can show you how to use a range of programs, including the Adobe Suite. I taught Photography A-Level at St Andrews College in Cambridge for a number of years.

Organisational studies
I have tutored organisational studies where I helped students to revise and organise their workload more effectively. This involves helping with timetables, mind-maps, organisation of revision materials and creating other revision tools.

11+
I am trained to and have tutored students in 7+ and 11+. In these subjects I have focused on verbal and non verbal reasoning and English predominately and supported students with maths. I have also led sessions specifically on creative writing and comprehension.

Film Studies and Media Studies
I have tutored film and media studies, helping with the coursework and essay practice for A-level exams. I taught Media Studies Foundation at St Andrews College in Cambridge.

Website Design/Social Media
I can teach you how to design a website using Wix, Squarespace, Weebly or Wordpress. You will gain the skills to be in control of any future updates and design changes. I can also help with social media for creatives.

About the lesson

Susie gained Grade A and B A levels in Art and Design, Design Technology and English literature respectively. She then achieved a BA Honours in Fine Art Sculpture at the Glasgow School of Art in 2010 and a masters in Sculpture from the Royal College of Art in 2019. Since graduating in 2010 she has been practising as a sculptor both in the UK and internationally. In 2009 she studied sculpture on exchange at Kyoto Seika University in Japan.

Susie is an associate lecturer in fine art at the University of Gloucestershire and has been a visiting lecturer at UAL, University of Brighton, Westminster University, University of the Creative Arts and guest speaker at Goldsmiths University and Falmouth University. She has taught in the Art History department and the Judge Business School at Cambridge University, at the Fitzwilliam Museum and at St Andrews College.

Susie still teaches regularly in Cambridge and now tutors across London. Her experience is in teaching English as a foreign language, Art History, Art, Design and Technology, 11+, 7+ and in study skills.Susie spends her free time seeing art and design exhibitions, playing tennis, dancing salsa, skiing in winter and having fun exploring London with friends. Susie also loves to travel when she can and has visited South America, Asia and Europe. Her most recent trip was to Iceland.'

Perfect! Excellent DT tutor
There are not many DT teachers on here but there doesn't need to be. Susie is professional tutor, just because someone has a degree in a subject it does not mean they are capable of teaching it but Susie is a great tutor. She helped refine and guide the structure of the course work and allowed my son to keep up with the deadlines, not an easy task. He thoroughly enjoyed his sessions with her and during lockdown she enable a sense of normality and continuity in eduction. His school really dropped the ball on practical subjects but it didn't matter because Susie kept the pace up and became his primary teacher.

Results came out yesterday and his school was not one to hand out many top grades but he achieved an A*

Susie has made it easier as expected to study three A-Levels in one year instead of two, and I honestly cannot thank her enough for helping me throughout my homeschool journey. As well as Susie being passionate for Photography, she is also invested in the students wellbeing. Other than teaching me photography A-Level, she tutors me in Film Studies and Media Studies too. I would recommend Susie as a tutor to anyone, as she is very easy to get along with and focuses on the needs of the student to develop their skills in specific areas of the subjects studying.
