About Allison
I’m Allison, a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Fordham University with 2+ years of college tutoring experience. I’m passionate about helping students feel confident in their coursework and develop study habits that make challenging material feel more manageable.
My tutoring style is patient, supportive, and personalized. I take the time to understand each student’s individual needs and learning style rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach. Whether you need help preparing for an exam, understanding a difficult concept, working through assignments, or improving your overall study skills, I’ll tailor each session to your goals.
I have experience tutoring psychology, biology, statistics, and other college-level courses, and I especially enjoy breaking down complicated concepts into clear, easy-to-understand explanations. My approach to tutoring is personalized, encouraging, and focused on helping students truly understand the material rather than simply memorize information. With 2+ years of college tutoring experience, I have worked with students across psychology, biology, statistics, and other college-level courses, adapting my teaching style to each student's learning style, goals, and areas of difficulty.
A typical lesson begins by identifying what the student is currently struggling with and reviewing any upcoming assignments, exams, or concepts they need to master. From there, I break complex material into manageable sections, explain concepts in clear and relatable terms, and use practice questions, examples, active recall, and discussion to reinforce understanding. I also like to end each session by reviewing the key takeaways and identifying what the student should focus on before our next lesson.
What sets me apart is that I approach tutoring as more than simply providing answers. I want students to develop the confidence and study strategies they can use independently. As a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Fordham University, I understand the demands of college coursework and can help students develop effective approaches to studying, organizing their workload, preparing for exams, and understanding difficult material.
My lessons are best suited for high school and college students, particularly those taking psychology, biology, social science, and other undergraduate courses. I am happy to work with students who want ongoing academic support, are preparing for an upcoming exam, need help understanding a difficult unit, or simply want to become more confident and effective in their studies.
