About Jonathan

Hey everyone, nice to meet you! My name is Jonathan, and I’m a sophomore majoring in Biological Sciences at Hunter College. I graduated from Stuyvesant High School, so if you’re from there too, feel free to say hi, and if not, I’m always happy to meet new people. I’ve previously worked as a tutor for K–12 math and high school chemistry, giving me experience teaching students across a wide range of levels and learning styles. As a current pre-med biology student, I have extensive firsthand experience with both high-school chemistry and college-level chemistry. I understand not only the academic rigor of these courses, but also the pressure and stress students often feel while trying to keep up. I don’t believe in overwhelming students with unnecessary “gibberish” that’s hard to follow in class. Effective tutoring, in my view, is built on clarity, consistency, trust, and approachability. I take the time to assess each student’s current understanding, identify gaps in their foundation, and build concepts logically from the ground up so the material actually makes sense. My sessions are structured but not overly strict. I ask that students come ready to be respectful and engaged so we can make the most of our time together. You can expect a supportive and encouraging learning environment where questions are always welcome and no concept is rushed. I hold myself to high standards of preparation and communication, so students and families can feel confident they are working with someone who takes education seriously. My ultimate goal is to help students move from feeling overwhelmed to feeling capable, prepared, and in control of their chemistry coursework.

About the lesson

My name is Jonathan, and my approach to tutoring is built around true understanding for the student, and not memorization. I've been there , so chemistry can feel overwhelming when it's taught as a list of formulas and reactions, so I focus on helping students see why things work and back to basics, since like math everything revolves around our daily lives and foundation.

I go over homework if needed with the student and reason with you for every problem you feel like a 5 to a 7 on scale of 10, so that we can bring it up to an 8 or 9+.

After addressing immediate concerns, we move into the chemistry curriculum you’re learning in school. I follow your class structure and pace, making sure concepts are fully understood before moving on. I never rush unless the student is genuinely comfortable progressing faster. If you feel like you need more time on a topic, that’s completely okay—everyone learns at a different pace, and progress matters more than speed.

My goal is to create a supportive, patient environment where chemistry stops feeling intimidating and starts making sense.
