About Leonardo

Hello, I’m Leo.

I’m a final-year Archaeology student at the University of Exeter, specialising in Islamic, Byzantine and Roman history and material culture. I’m half British and half Italian, I split my time between London and Venice, and I’ve done fieldwork in Mongolia. My own study of the past goes well beyond the classroom, into geopolitics, strategy and the history of how states, trade and power have shaped the world.

Why I teach history and geopolitics
Current events only make sense when you know what came before them. Borders, alliances, trade routes and conflicts all have long histories, and I want students to be able to trace those connections themselves. I teach students to question sources, build arguments from evidence and explain why events happened as they did, rather than memorise dates. Those are the skills that earn top marks in GCSE and IB History, and they also help you read the news with a critical eye.

What to expect
Clear, structured lessons with a defined objective, plenty of discussion, and honest feedback on your work. I’ve tutored since 2022, including IB History and English, so I know exactly what examiners look for.

About the lesson

Techniques and methodology
Structured and discussion led. In History and Geopolitics, I teach students to build arguments from evidence, using source analysis, essay structure and timed past-paper practice with detailed feedback. For IB, I work directly to the assessment criteria, as I sat the IB myself. Each lesson has a clear objective and ends with next steps.

Lesson length
45 minutes or 60 minutes.

Qualifications and experience
Final-year Archaeology undergraduate at the University of Exeter on track for a First Class degree. Tutoring since 2022: private IB History and English (2022–2024) and online English and History on Preply (2025–2026). Native English speaker, fluent in Italian.
