About Alistair

I have over 11 years of teaching experience and a Graduate Diploma in Violin Pedagogy. I specialize in integrating music theory, aural skills, and sight reading into violin lessons, with a focus on preparing students for music theory exams and understanding advanced harmony. I teach scales, intervals, and harmony through practical bowing and fingering exercises that connect theory to playing. This method supports students in improving sight-reading and overall musicianship. Many of my students are exam candidates or musicians aiming to enhance their fluency. My approach fosters confident, well-rounded violinists with strong theoretical foundations. Mastering theory alongside technique opens up new levels of musical expression. I look forward to helping you grow as a musician with both skill and knowledge.

About the lesson

In my teaching, I combine playing technique with important lessons on violin care and maintenance. Students learn how to handle their violin gently, clean it regularly, and change strings when needed.
I also teach basic troubleshooting skills to solve common problems quickly. These practical lessons ensure the instrument stays in top condition.
I’m experienced in helping students who perform online or sing casually, preparing them to care for their violins independently. You’ll learn how to keep your instrument reliable and sounding great.
My approach makes violin care simple and accessible. Together, we build your skills as both a player and a responsible instrument owner.
