About Brianna

My name is Brianna, and I'm happy you're here! I was born and raised in Southern California, where I thrived in school participating in clubs like Amnesty International, Give Peace a Chance, the Gay/Straight Alliance, and Super Sports, as well as musical theater and an array of sports. In high school, I took as many APs as possible, and absolutely adored my history and literature classes. It's since been my joy exploring philosophy and human nature, working to make complex concepts accessible and explorable for all.

After spending two college semesters in Madrid, Spain and Rabat, Morocco, I graduated from American University in Washington, D.C. with a degree in International Studies, before pursuing a M.A. from Georgetown in International Conflict Resolution, focusing on dialogue facilitation and de-escalation in conflict zones. I've spent my career post-graduation working for the government and non-profits in a variety of capacities, most recently at the Aspen Institute facilitating text-based dialogue, studying some of the greatest philosophers and thinkers of our time to encourage values-based leadership and writing speeches for climate scientists, researchers, and executives at the Environmental Defense Fund.

About the lesson

Hi there! My name is Brianna, and I would be thrilled to tutor you or your child in English literature, writing, or assist with college prep. My lessons are designed for an array of students at various levels throughout high school. As a tutor, I adopt a student-centered approach. I have vivid recollections of not too long ago, when my parents would be desperately trying to explain complex high school subjects to me, while I nodded blankly. If this sounds like a familiar occurrence in your household, I'm glad you're here. School didn't come easily for me, but I worked hard and pushed through, eventually graduating with an M.A. from Georgetown University. I want to be there for your family to work through the knots of confusion until the concepts become clear.

My teaching method incorporates a combination of direct instruction, interactive discussions, and hands-on activities to approach education from multiple perspectives. I provide feedback and guidance to empower students to refine their own style and develop their own voice, opinions, and agency.

In a typical lesson plan, I start by assessing a student's current knowledge to identify areas for improvement. We then set specific goals together, whether it's mastering grammar rules, enhancing critical thinking, or crafting persuasive essays. I break down complex concepts into manageable parts, providing clear explanations and examples to ensure comprehension. Students actively engage through discussion, brainstorming, and writing exercises, allowing them to apply what they've learned.
