I have studied many languages. Rote is necessary but not everything. A French professor from Dartmouth would throw himself on the table and say "and where is the professor?? quick, quick!" you would always remember "sur". Memory associated with muscle movement helps. Memory with song is another. Chanting "aeiou" will never leave me. All means to master the language will be used.
