About Izzy
My name is Izzy and I live in Manchester.
I am a graduate of the University of Manchester, where I studied Spanish and Latin American Studies and achieved Distinction in Spoken Spanish. As a teacher, I am friendly, patient, well-prepared and organised.
My main experience is in tutoring secondary school children up to GCSE, and beginner- intermediate adults. I really enjoy getting to know them and creating lesson plans based on what works for each individual.

Adult beginners
I love to teach adult beginners who want to learn for travel or work or fun! Just as with younger learners I begin with phonetics, then build basic conversation around the areas specific to the learner’s reasons for learning Spanish. For example, if the student wants to move to a Spanish speaking country, we can build scripts together each week around different imagined scenarios of that journey.
Adult non-beginners
For adult non-beginners, we can jump straight into building targeted scripts, learning songs, or whatever you want!
Key Stage 1
In the first lesson with this age group I will spend 10 minutes building rapport so they feel comfortable, whilst introducing Spanish phrases such as What’s your name? My name is… How old are you? I am __ years old.
Then we will move on to the alphabet. A great introduction to phonetics, that students always love, is an alphabet song on YouTube, which I encourage them to practice singing along to as homework.
In the following lessons my aim will be for my students to speak as much Spanish as possible using songs and games. It is the perfect time to prioritise speaking, as they are at the age where they don’t feel the embarrassment that limits older learners.
Key Stage 3
In the first lesson with Key Stage 3 beginners, I will follow the same structure as with Key Stage 1 and 2 students. With non-beginners, I will discuss their Spanish learning so far and what they struggle with most in class. Then we will do a short quiz so I can gauge their level and plan the next lesson accordingly.
With both beginners and non-beginners, we will discuss the Spanish curriculum used at their school, and if they plan to take the GCSE. From there, we can plan a school-focused lesson, a practical, speaking-focused lesson, or a mix of both! Either way, I always allow time for speaking practice at the beginning of the lesson. I know from experience that speaking is the hardest thing to pick up later if neglected early on. Little and often is the key!
GCSE and A-Level
At GCSE and above I will start with a short quiz to gauge the students current level and use this to inform my lesson plans going forward. I will prioritise the areas chosen by the student, whilst also incorporating some light and fun speaking practice.

Perfect! Wow, what a great first lesson ! Izzy gave me a solid foundation in Spanish sounds/phonemes and linking them to the spanish alphabet , so I'll be speaking Spanish correctly from the outset. Then we moved on swiftly to verbs, and understanding reflexive verbs - feels so good to know all this new learning after just one lesson (thanks Izzy) ! Also we learnt lots of great songs to embed the learning. Cant wait for next week's lesson. On the basis of today, I have no hesitation in recommending Izzy - she knows her stuff clearly, and is supportive and encouraging. Feeling happy I got me a 5star tutor :-)

Perfect! My lesson with Izzy was brilliant, I strongly recommend her. Izzy and I recapped some of the basics. Her background in linguistics was evident in the lesson as she was able to explain clearly the difference between letters and the sounds they represent. The lesson gave me a much better understanding of how to read written Spanish and decode (using phonetics!) how that word is pronounced.

I have had the pleasure of working with Izzy for while now. She is an extremely valuable member of my team. She is friendly, hard working, reliable and enthusiastic about all areas of her job roll. Since Izzy joined my team we have seen a vast improvement in our front of house and customer service.
Izzy is reliable and hardworking and really cares about her pupils and wants them to do well and progress. She has a good sense of humour and makes lessons varied and fun.
When I first started learning Spanish I’d call Izzy to practice speaking. She is an expert at keeping the conversation in Spanish, which helped to build my confidence. Izzy is down to earth and has an excellent sense of humour, which meant our conversations were always fun even though my Spanish was very clunky! I eventually travelled around Spain, Mexico and Guatemala and was able to make local friends and get the most out of the experience, which I could not have done without Izzy!
Izzy has really helped my spanish improve ! She is encouraging me all the time and goes above and beyonfd to support my learning . Izzy explains the aspects of Spanish I used to find hard so well, verb tenses, the dreaded subjunctive - can't recommend her enough !
