About Liliana

As a non-native Spanish-speaker, I know what it is like to learn a language in an academic setting, and it is HARD! When telling people that I am a Spanish major, they often say something along the lines of "I hated my language classes in school." This makes me sad! I want to help instill a love of language learning and even just help you make it through your current class or academic requirement. Whatever your goal, I am here!

About the lesson

A little bit about me:

I am a Spanish and Political Science double major who has taken Spanish since Kindergarten and studied abroad in Madrid, Spain. As a non-native speaker, I relate to the struggle of learning a language in an academic setting! It often requires more help outside of school. I've gone through it, and I know what it requires at every given level of education, all the way up until college!

As a Spanish tutor specializing in vocabulary, reading, writing, and phonetics for elementary, middle, and high school students, my teaching approach is interactive, engaging, and tailored to meet the needs of the specified age group.
I will utilize an immersive teaching method, emphasizing practical language usage. I integrate various multimedia resources, games, and real-life scenarios to make the learning experience enjoyable and relevant. I focus on building a strong foundation in vocabulary, reading, and writing skills while incorporating phonetics to enhance pronunciation.

A typical lesson plan would follow this structure:

Warm-up: Quick review of previous concepts and/or homework
Vocabulary Building: Introduce new / relevant vocabulary to help with the assignment
Targeted Practice: Engage students with age-appropriate reading materials, writing prompts, or pronunciation practice depending on the subject.
Interactive Activity: Ending the lesson with a game or an activity to reinforce learning.

What sets me apart as a tutor:

As a non-native speaker who has learned Spanish in an academic setting, I understand the struggles that can come with language learning as a non-native speaker. This unique perspective has not only created a passion for my own language learning, but one for helping others understand that Spanish is fun!
