About Sofia

I am a Colombian medical student and aspiring pediatric gastroenterologist, currently a researcher at UC San Diego School of Medicine. Alongside my research in gastroenterology and the gut microbiome, I have built strong teaching experience, from working as a teaching assistant to teaching American doctors and researchers who wanted to improve their Spanish for professional use. What I have noticed throughout this experience is that doctors who speak Spanish connect much better with their patients: they build stronger trust, communicate with empathy, and ultimately provide better care. That is why I am passionate about teaching Spanish for healthcare: it is more than grammar or vocabulary, it is about giving professionals the tools to truly understand and support their patients. My lessons combine medical knowledge, teaching skills, and cultural understanding, offering students a practical and professional learning experience. You can feel confident learning with someone who is dedicated both to medicine and to education.

About the lesson

Each class is practical and interactive: we practice patient interviews, taking medical histories, explaining diagnoses, and discussing treatment plans — all in Spanish. I also incorporate role-play exercises, medical case studies, and vocabulary tailored to your specialty or area of interest.

What sets me apart is that you won’t just learn “general Spanish”; you’ll learn how to think and communicate like a doctor or health professional in Spanish. My goal is to help you feel confident and natural in real patient interactions, while also making lessons dynamic and enjoyable.

These lessons are ideal for doctors, nurses, researchers, medical students, or any healthcare professional who wants to take their Spanish to the next level.
