About Safaa
In the past I've done much service work, creating my own non-profit, Bet on Better, and competing in science competitions as well as engaging in scientific research. Last summer, I had the opportunity to conduct research at MGH and Harvard Medical School, looking at gene engineering to treat cardiothoracic diseases. I was able to gain hands-on experience in how to design and implement different models in order to reach the desired outcome. Further, through my coursework in math, science, and engineering classes at school, I was able to explore the power of qualitative and analytical approaches to tackling complex world issues. Particularly, in my Engineering Sciences course, I used MatLab to quantitatively model muscle contractions, lung air capacity, vascular blood flow, and more.
So I have a strong academic background, but I also spent a lot of time teaching. Last summer, I taught courses to immigrant communities around the Boston Area. In addition, I taught some pre-med courses to high school students through a Harvard program.
