About Alifiya
Hello! My name is Alifiya, and I'm a Master's graduate from SOAS, University of London with a passion for English, critical thinking and helping students reach their full potential.
Throughout my academic journey, I developed strong analytical, essay-writing and communication skills, which I now enjoy sharing with GCSE students. I understand that English can sometimes feel overwhelming, whether it's analysing language, structuring essays or preparing for exams. My aim is to make these skills approachable, engaging and easier to understand.
I pride myself on being patient, approachable and encouraging. Every student learns differently, so I create a supportive environment where questions are welcomed, confidence is built and progress is celebrated. I believe that understanding the text is far more valuable than memorising model answers, and I encourage students to think critically while developing the skills needed to succeed in their exams.

I believe every student is capable of improving in English with the right guidance and approach. My lessons are designed to build confidence alongside academic ability, ensuring students understand why writers make certain choices rather than simply memorising model answers.
I tailor every lesson to the individual student, identifying their strengths and the areas they find most challenging before creating a structured plan to help them progress. Whether a student struggles with analysing language, essay structure, quotation recall or exam technique, lessons are adapted to target those specific skills.
I use a variety of teaching methods, including collaborative mind maps, guided discussion, exam-style questions, model answers and targeted feedback. Rather than simply giving students notes, I encourage them to develop ideas themselves, helping them become more independent and confident thinkers. My lessons focus heavily on exam skills, AO2 language analysis, essay writing and developing high-quality analytical responses.
Lessons are typically one to two hours, depending on the student's age, concentration and goals. Homework is provided where appropriate to reinforce learning between sessions, and each lesson builds on previous knowledge to ensure steady progress.
I hold a Master's degree in International Studies and Diplomacy from SOAS, University of London, where strong analytical writing, critical thinking and communication formed a significant part of my studies. Alongside my academic background, I am passionate about helping students develop confidence in English and achieve their potential.
My lessons are suitable for GCSE English Literature and English Language students of all abilities, whether they are aiming to strengthen the fundamentals, improve predicted grades or work towards the highest marks in their examinations.
