About Megan

Even as a child, I was deeply interested in the English language. My childhood aspiration was to become an author, and although I ultimately decided not to write novels, I never lost my passion for reading and writing.

I have had quite a lot of experience in teaching in a variety of contexts. Some of this comes from working in a primary school, where I practised targeted interventions with children who struggled with English. I have also taught classes to adults in colleges, and I currently work with students from other countries to improve their English writing skills. I proofread a lot of personal statements and university applications from foreign students who wish to study in English-speaking countries, and I also provide feedback to undergraduate and postgraduate students on their academic writing.

I've often been told that I'm friendly, approachable, and a good teacher, and I try very hard to help my students achieve their goals. I'm really looking forward to helping more students improve their English skills!

About the lesson

If you choose to work with me, your first lesson will be more of an assessment. We can talk about your current level of English and discuss your goals. For example, you might want to improve your essay writing, or maybe you have an English exam coming up. Knowing this will help me to understand what you hope to gain from tutoring and monitor your progress towards your goals!

After your first lesson, I will come up with a plan to help you achieve your targets. We can look at various activities to help improve your English skills; depending on the area you're interested in, this might involve reading passages of text and checking your comprehension, writing for various purposes, like essays or emails, or looking at ways to use certain types of grammar and punctuation.

I have experience working with children in primary schools, as well as teaching adults. I also have a teenager of my own! I do a lot of writing feedback work with people who speak English as a second or foreign language, so please don't feel embarrassed if you're not confident speaking or writing English. I am also working towards my TEFL certificate, so I'm learning more and more about teaching English to non-native speakers.

Our lessons can be flexible to fit around your schedule. I find that an hour a week is a good starting point for tutoring, but we can change the length and frequency of lessons whenever you'd like. The most important thing is that you are happy with your progress and comfortable in our lessons, so I will always be here to change things if something isn't working for you.
