About Akansha

I am a singer, actor, song-writer, activist and teacher with a passion for all things joyful and musical. I began my singing journey learning Hindustani classical singing at the age of 7 and later adopting Western styles of singing at the age of 12.
At high school I discovered her passion for musical theatre as I took part in musicals such as
Hello Dolly, and Into The Woods in which I portrayed 'The Baker’s Wife'. When studying my Bachelor of Education at Monash university in 2015 I enjoyed playing the role of 'Ivy' in Monash University Student Theatre’s rendition of Bare:A Pop Opera.

I then pursued her passion for performance by studying a Bachelor of Music Theatre at Federation University Arts Academy (formerly Ballarat Academy of Performing Arts) where I discovered an immense joy in learning by setting myself extra study goals, exploring varied repertoire, masterclasses, song-writing, playing guitar, and gaining leading and understudying roles in several university productions.

I have trained in intensives with such Broadway stars as Shoshana Bean, Arielle Jacobs, Michael James Scott, Natalie Weiss, and Jodie Langell. I have also sung in masterclasses with renowned names in Australian musical theatre such as actor Simon Burke, vocal coach and actress Lisa-Marie Parker, and composer/writer duo Kurt Kansley and Oliver Lidert.

Since graduating in 2019 I have taught singing technique and acting-through-song through the Akansha H Vocal Studio, and simultaneously committed myself to continually learning, training and auditioning in order to establish my place in the Australian music theatre industry and teach my students current, holistic, nurturing, practical methods to improve their performance technique and audition practices.

About the lesson

My classes are vastly technique-based, with a focus on freeing your breath and creating ease of movement to build a more versatile and reliable instrument. I also offer acting-through-song coaching, and all of my regular students have blossomed over time and achieved many of their personal and professional goals, ranging from musical theatre auditions to engaging with record labels and publishing original music of various genres.

When I have done singing lessons in the past I struggled to understand teacher instructions that were vague or particularly metaphorical - like "sing from the top of your head". Akansha uses anatomical knowledge and useful exercises to help me develop technique in a way that actually makes sense to me.

I would recommend her to absolutely everyone. I do classes with her via Zoom, and enjoy them more than the in-person classes I have done elsewhere.
