About Ivy
I am an experienced chess tutor with 7 years of teaching students at all levels, from complete beginners to advanced players. Over the years, I have successfully taught more than 300 students, helping them improve their skills, confidence, and love for the game. My teaching philosophy is centered on understanding each student’s unique strengths and challenges. I focus on developing strategic thinking, problem-solving skills, and decision-making abilities in a fun and engaging way.
I believe learning chess should be both educational and enjoyable. I guide students through tactics, openings, endgames, and match analysis while encouraging creativity and independent thinking. My lessons are flexible and tailored to each learner’s goals, ensuring steady progress and strong foundations. I also help students develop focus, patience, and confidence, which are essential both on and off the board.
Many of my students have gone on to participate in competitions and have seen significant improvement in their gameplay. I take pride in their achievements and in building long-term skills that extend beyond chess. Whether you want to learn for fun, improve your tournament performance, or master advanced strategies, I am here to support you at every step.

My teaching approach is designed to help students of all levels, from complete beginners to advanced players, develop their chess skills while enjoying the learning process. I focus on flexibility, adapting lessons to match each student’s pace, interests, and goals. Every learner is unique, so I tailor strategies, exercises, and game analysis to ensure maximum progress and engagement.
Communication is at the heart of my methodology. I encourage students to ask questions, share their thoughts, and discuss moves and strategies. This two-way interaction strengthens understanding and builds confidence in decision-making during games. Motivation is key—I make lessons fun and challenging, helping students set achievable goals and celebrate milestones along the way.
Accountability is another core part of my teaching. I guide students to practice consistently, reflect on their games, and track improvement over time. Creativity is encouraged in every lesson, helping students explore new tactics, openings, and strategies, not just memorize moves. I aim to develop independent thinkers who can adapt and innovate during matches.
Beyond chess, I also incorporate related strategy games like backgammon, checkers, Risk, and Settlers of Catan to expand analytical thinking, planning, and problem-solving skills. These games reinforce core strategic concepts, pattern recognition, and logical thinking in a fun and interactive way.
Through a mix of practical exercises, game analysis, and scenario-based training, students gain confidence, sharpen focus, and improve decision-making. My goal is not only to teach chess but to cultivate critical thinking, patience, and creativity that extend beyond the game. With my guidance, students learn to enjoy the challenge of chess while building a strong foundation for success in both games and life.
