About Erin

Hi! I’m Erin and I am a second year university student providing one to one tutoring in English Literature. I obtained an A* in A-Level English Literature and I aim to encourage my pupils to enjoy and excel in the subject; whether that be in their GCSEs, A-Levels or KS3 exams.

English literature has been a pivotal factor that accounts for how I see the world. My love for it stemmed from my childhood love of books which eventually branched into a love for poetry, dramatic texts, and reading between the lines of any prose. I believe that through analysing texts, one can expand their mindset and apply a multitude of lenses to view the incredible world we live in.

I aim to establish a zest for critical thinking and make reading and writing enjoyable for pupils. Working with my pupil’s individual style, I will refine and improve upon their essay technique to secure their best grade.

About the lesson

Before lessons commence, I like to get to know the student; what aspects of the subject they find enjoyable, what their strengths are, and their goal for the academic year.

Initially, we will work together to review their resources, find a suitable starting point and establish any areas that require extra attention so that we can tackle these as a team and build the pupils confidence. We will work with this information, parental requests and the exam syllabus to approach your content.

We will subsequently at your chosen text and follow a tutor based review of the content and context as well as prompts to help you read deeper between the lines. I encourage independent critical thought which I will discuss and review with my pupil. The wonderful thing about English is that it is so open to interpretation and there are no absolutes! Therefore, I can streamline the pupils own creative ideas into an appropriate exam response.

Close readings are always followed by a practice question based on past papers which I will guide the student through whilst allowing them the capacity to answer them with their own knowledge and skills. We will review what we have learnt and discuss further areas for building confidence such as essay writing or exam technique.

Each lesson is tailored to the needs of the pupil and I can provide a flexible learning approach that is both stimulating and useful.
