About Nikita

Hi, my name is Nikita. I am a professional musician, teacher and performer with more than 20 years of experience. I am originally from Russia where I started my musical education at the age of 8. I hold a Bachelor`s degree in Music from Nizhny Novgorod Music College and a Master`s degree from Nizhny Novgorod State conservatory. During my career, I have toured across the world with many bands and wind orchestras. While living in the US, in New York City, I was a tenor saxophone player at Manhattan Wind Ensemble and Brooklyn Wind Symphony. Currently, I live in Toronto, Canada, and provide my students with online and in-person lessons. I would love to be your teacher if you are eager to play the saxophone, clarinet, flute, recorder or you are interested in music theory. I speak English, Russian, also basic Spanish and French. My students successfully pass band auditions, exams like NYSSMA or ABRSM music theory exam, they enter music colleges and perform at different levels. Let`s set up a free lesson and discuss your goals in music and how you can achieve them

  • 1) When did you first develop a passion for music and your favorite instrument?

I think it happened in the third grade of music school when I was accepted to play the saxophone in a wind orchestra. There were about 30 musicians there, and it was so cool to be part of a big band, play concerts, tour the country. It really taught me a lot in life.
  • 2) Is there a particular type of music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

Of course, in fact, there are many of them. My parents and teachers brought up in me a love for the music of various genres, and therefore I have a lot of favorite performers of completely different music styles. Among them are Pink Floyd, Johannes Brahms, Whitney Houston, David Sanborn, Candy Dulfer, and many others.
  • 3) Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.

I think the most difficult part of mastering any musical instrument is to find consistency in practice, have high motivation, the desire to develop musically, and set clear goals. In this case, we can talk about achieving any results, regardless of the specific training course in music. Personally, I can offer my students training in various genres of music - be it classical music, jazz, rock, pop, and others. Music theory and solfeggio are also very important components of musical development, and I am happy to offer such lessons to my students.
  • 4) What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

In my opinion, it is inappropriate to compare the degree of difficulty of studying different musical instruments. For example, it may seem that it is much easier to reproduce the first sound on the piano than on wind instruments, and it is easier to hit the bass drum than to find the right sound on the violin. Nevertheless, one should keep in mind that in order to be considered a master of playing a musical instrument, you need to match the level of a master on a particular instrument, and these requirements differ from one instrument to another.
  • 5) What are your keys to success?

First of all, it's regularity in what you do. Without this, nothing will work, no matter how talented you are. Secondly, set clear goals for what you want to achieve, as well as all the intermediate steps to achieve the final goal. Thirdly, to be proactive - that means constantly learning something new, communicating with other musicians, performing on stage, going to concerts, etc. In addition, an experienced teacher will always help you achieve success in the shortest possible time!
  • 6) Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favorite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

This is a very difficult choice! If we talk about living musicians, I would certainly meet with Brian May, Sting, and John Williams. Why? It's not every day you get to talk to geniuses!
  • 7) Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

Well, here's my story. During college, about 18 years ago, I always insisted that I would never teach music, I only wanted to perform, tour with bands and become a celebrity. And here I am now, years later, a seasoned teacher with many students from different parts of the world, this is my main activity and I love doing it!
  • 8) What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

I have been playing music for more than 25 years, I have performed with various orchestras all over the world - in Europe, Asia, Africa, North and South America. Also, I have about 14 years of teaching experience with people of different ages, levels of training, different mentality and character, different requirements, etc. I believe that thanks to my education and experience, hard work, constant desire to learn something new, thanks to the attention to the smallest details as well as the ability to clearly see my student's goals and support any of his aspirations, I am able to become a reliable teacher for everyone who aspires to master a musical instrument.
