About Jonathan
I have a degree in US History from UC Berkeley as well as three California Clear Credentials (still valid) for US History, Social Science and Multiple Subjects. I moved to San Francisco from Los Angeles in 1978 and attended Presidio Middle School, where I later taught LA/SS for 31 years. I believe I was well-liked by my students, especially the last 15 years of my career. I was nominated for “teacher of the year” in SF by students one year (didn’t win though!), and I believe that my flexibility when designing lessons for all types of learners showed I was thoughtful, caring, and professional. I am very proud of my career, and I always received notes and cards from kids at holiday time and at the end of the year expressing their gratitude and appreciation. Those notes and cards were worth all of the work and attendant stress that teaching entails! I always loved my individual interactions with students, and I still have something to give, and online tutoring seems like a perfect way forward for me at this point.

I taught for 31 years at the same middle school, where both I and my daughters attended, and I recently retired. I still have teaching in me, and my favorite part was helping students individually. I am a very kind and patient person who is well-educated and very experienced. I taught expository writing, grammar, spelling to 6th graders, and research paper writing to 8th graders in my US history classes. I can help students in various aspects of academic writing if that is the need.
