About Tim

I have paid experience tutoring college students subjects like General Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Principles of Biology, Microbiology, Cell Biology, and writing lab reports. I've conducted several independent and group-led research projects at the university level allowing me to practically apply concepts learned in lecture, and, for students' benefit - illustrate the real-world connections of their class studies. I've mostly taught groups of students but also been hired to teach one-on-one. In my pre-clinical years of medical school, I would teach friends difficult topics by breaking them down into analogies with humor periodically sprinkled in.

I would say I'm well-versed in human anatomy, physiology, fundamentals of biology, and even psychology. I consistently scored #1 on every psych exam I took in undergrad pretty much with my eyes closed.

About the lesson

I love teaching because it allows me to share my passion for the sciences while also helping others find a breakthrough in their understanding. I have Dyslexia and struggled a lot through my educational career to learn material, albeit perhaps unconventionally. So, I know the frustration with learning material. You have to have fun while learning and I hope to share that with students. Maybe you'll even come to like the topics that have probably otherwise irritated you.

I typically make PowerPoints but my teaching is anything but one-way lecturing. I try to cut through the complicated verbiage and boil concepts down into easy-to-understand bits. When I teach, I want to make real-world connections as much as possible. Learning should be less about rote memorization and more about seeing how to bridge what you read in textbooks and anchoring your memory in clinical, laboratory, or even average day-to-day life. I'll regularly check your understanding by making case scenarios and ask you to work me through your thought process as we work through problems together.
