About Jonathan
I am a full-time research assistant at the University of Pittsburgh, using my coursework and undergraduate research experiences in biophysics to help analyze and understand electrophysiology data. I completed my bachelors degree in physics at Carnegie Mellon University in the spring of 2020 and completed coursework that concern foundational topics in the field of physics such as quantum physics, thermodynamics, electricity & magnetism, and physical mechanics. I enjoy learning about phenomena and methodologies that blur the lines between biology and physics.
Additionally, I have more than 10 years of experience reading, writing, and speaking German. I was chosen as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant for the fall of 2020, received an academic achievement award from Carnegie Mellon's Modern Languages department, and spent a summer studying abroad in Munich & Freiburg. The study of both the natural sciences and language requires students to develop skills in very fundamental and organized concepts. Students must learn to observe their surroundings, create a meaningful and synthesized structure, and then apply their learned concepts to novel situations and problems. In a somewhat simplistic example, this might mean watching a ball roll down a hill, learning about Newton's second law, and then predicting future events using kinematics and equations of motion. A linguistic example might be a student hearing new vocabulary terms or grammatical structures and then trying to talk about their family or the whether in a new way.
I provide my students a positive environment to ask questions, navigate new concepts, and try out their own understandings of content.
