About Monica

I am Monica Bassey, a native Ibibio woman from Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, and language is at the very core of who I am.

I grew up hearing Ibibio in the kitchen, at family gatherings, in prayers, and in the laughter of people I love. That lived experience is my greatest qualification — and it is something no textbook can replicate.

Beyond my roots, I am a certified multilingual language educator with a B.A. in French Language from the University of Uyo and a professional certification from Institut Universitaire Catholique de Saint-Jérôme de Douala, Cameroon. I have spent over seven years teaching languages to more than 100 students across Nigeria, the UK, the USA, and Canada.

But my deepest passion is Ibibio. I teach it because I have watched diaspora families lose touch with who they are, and I believe that reclaiming your mother tongue is one of the most powerful things you can do for yourself and your children.

I created Bassey's Ibibio Hub for exactly that reason — to make Ibibio accessible, joyful, and alive for every learner, no matter where in the world they are.

About the lesson

My lessons are more than language classes. They are a doorway home.

As a native Ibibio speaker born and raised in Akwa Ibom State, I do not just teach words — I teach you how our people think, greet, celebrate, and express love. That cultural depth is something no textbook or non-native tutor can offer.

I tailor every session to your personal story. Whether you are a diaspora adult trying to reconnect with your roots, a parent raising children who feel caught between two worlds, or a complete beginner who has never spoken a word of Ibibio, I meet you exactly where you are and build from there.

My approach is warm, patient, and structured. We move at your pace, using real conversations, cultural stories, and practical phrases you can use with family right away. No pressure. No embarrassment. Just progress you can feel.
