  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

When I was in grade 11, my father told me that I had the communication skills required to convince anyone about my argument, so he told me that I could be a good teacher one day, I didn’t take it much seriously that time but overtime I saw that I was able to help some of my classmates with solving complex problems in math and economics, gradually I started developing deep interest in Economics. I was able to relate the theories in Economics with real life scenarios. When a small group of my immediate juniors reached out to me one day for helping them with their Economics exam, I started guiding them, shared some of my class notes with them, one of my juniors scored 90+ in his economics exam, that is where I found a dedicated tutor in me willing to spread knowledge in the simplest possible form and helping students improve their grades. I thought if I could do this at the high school level, I would certainly be able to teach and tutor at the University Level. I finally decided to pursue my higher studies in Economics so that I could not only teach as a lecturer at a reputed university but also tutor young minds who are willing to become successful economists in the future. And here I am, teaching and mentoring college and University students across UK willing to make a career in field of Economics and Math.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I like to teach pretty much all core quantitative papers in Economics at Undergraduate and Postgraduate level. Be it concepts of calculus and linear algebra in Mathematical Economics to Utility functions in Microeconomics to IS-LM models in Macroeconomics to Probability and Hypothesis testing in Statistics to Regression Analysis in Econometrics and Game theory, I got it all covered ! I have made some dedicated content on all these papers over past 5 years covering topics across LSE, Warwick, UCL, KCL, Queen Mary, Birmingham University among other leading universities in the UK. My lectures can be easily understood even if you are completely naïve in Economics or Math. The content is designed with detailed lectures related to the university, solved past years and mid terms to give students a taste of the final exam! I don’t like to teach Economic history though as its a bit boring and abstract. I like to tutor the quantitative side of Economics!
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

My parents have been my role models, both of them. My Mom during her University days was a gold medalist in Maths and Physics. I still remember those endless nights when she used to make notes for me when I was studying at school. Its all because of her efforts and hardwork that I am a successful lecturer and tutor today, my dad taught me about the practical aspect of life, to never go down irrespective of the circumstances, to always stay strong at heart and be positive. Both have been an emotional support and backbone in my career and they continue to inspire me to succeed in life.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

I think there are definitely more than one qualities required to be a good tutor. A good tutor like a good doctor should first be able to identify the reason or the problem faced by the student for which he/she needs tutoring. Knowledge is imparted at the University also, still if the child needs private tutoring, there is always a reason behind that which a good tutor should be able to identify. A good tutor should have excellent communication skills, should be able to teach at the level of the student, the focus should be aligned with what the student wants, a good tutor should also form an emotional connect with the student as that also boosts student’s confidence. Lastly, a tutor should also be punctual to all classes, time management is the key to success and this is what should also be expected from a good tutor, I think.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

One of the best memories I have is of the sports day at my school when I was in ninth grade. Nobody in my class had anticipated that I will participate as most of my classmates thought that I was just a bookworm! I participated in 100m race and 200m relay race and scored a trophy in both. I also headed the march past and was applauded by all my teachers for showing sportsmanship. That was the day when I sort of showcased that I was a mix of academic and sports!
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

Well, I will not say that I know everything in Economics! I am still learning and improving as I interact with young minds, sometimes I learn a lot from the students when I teach them. Economics is a vast subject, it has so many theories and conjectures by famous economists, sometimes its a bit difficult to remember all the results especially the equations! For example, there are so many models of economic growth explained by Classical economists, Keynesian economists, New Classical and New Keynesian economists, these models have different viewpoints and different results altogether and its easy to get a bit confused teaching so many models. But I feel that constant practice and systematic study is the key to overcome any difficulty which arises while studying or teaching anything not just Economics!
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

My passion as I would put it clearly is learning and imparting education in the field of Economics particularly in the quantitative side of Economics. Apart from Economics, engaging in spiritual conversations is also what I am truly passionate about.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P)?

The answer to this question is quite simple and straightforward, its my constant and never ending interest and love for learning and teaching Economics and helping students succeed in their career path in the field of Economics or Business by identifying their problems and working for solutions to solve them which makes me a Superprof!
