About Ka'Von

I know what it's like to work hard to pass a class. I know what it's like to struggle to understand. I know what it takes to pull an all-nighter, just to feel like you have a chance at passing an exam.

But I also know what it feels like to finally get it! I know what it feels like to pull through and get a higher grade than last time. I know what it feels like to succeed! Let me help you succeed.

I have a BS in Political Science with a concentration in Public Administration that gave me a strong foundation in the social studies (and the many disciplines they reach). I have also spent time as a teaching assistant to elementary and middle schoolers, and have mentored fellow university students through classes, study sessions, and research projects and papers. Lastly, communication is my strongest skill, having written hundreds of essays, speeches, articles, and poems, and given hundreds of presentations and performances.

About the lesson

My approach to tutoring centers around meeting students where they are. My lessons are geared toward middle through college "social studies" classes (history, government/politics, economics, geography, humanities, philosophy, and writing and speaking). I believe in building on a student's current understanding through examples of the practical applications of the material. I love bringing in resources that help contextualize events or phenomenon as a way to deepen their understanding. I am also a fan of repetition and quizzing as a way to familiarize students with material. I am a talker, so I love to lecture, but I will deploy the Socratic method and provide visual aids and practice opportunities.

This could look like:
Starting with a video or source on the topic
Discussing the video
Lecture on the topic
Discussion of the lecture
Playing a game or an activity (quizzing)
Closing with a chance to answer any leftover questions.
