About Catherine
Whilst at university I spent four years studying a Biomedical science degree and never failed to embark on many opportunities requiring the need to shape student's learning experience. To name a few of these opportunities, one involved me being a Head Coach of an organisation promoting social mobility and supervising 17 pupils and 10 volunteering tutors. I've also been a digital impact trainer that has successfully taught numerous lessons to students from Palestine and Sri Lanka, some who struggled to understand English and have received great feedback of their love for my teaching style.
I am a tutor that values the essence of pupil power, the ability for a child to feel in control of their learning and I do this by asking numerous leading questions to trigger their cognitive thinking. I also love to do starter game style quiz questions to allow for recap of previous content taught and often ask the pupil to take up the role of a teacher and walk me through their answer. Additionally, I train my pupils to answer exam questions the way the examiner desires them to do so by assessing mark scheme answers and excessively breaking down the question. Lastly, I don't like to deliver boring lessons and avoid this by increasing pupil interactivity and engagement, in ways mentioned above and have been told by pupils I've previously tutored that they've preferred it to their science lessons at school because they don't feel talked at but talked with, I live for lessons that go two ways because it takes two to tango!
