About Denis

I was a graphic designer for 15 years, working with visual communication. Since science (physics more specifically) has always been of huge interest, I decided to have a go and start all over. I had to (re)learn all the long forgotten high school math and, in doing so, started really appreciating those who have the skill to communicate complex and abstract concepts. It then became a goal of mine to become one of these people that are good at explaining things to whoever is interested in learning.

About the lesson

I can help with year 7 math onwards, although the stuff I really love is around years 10 to 12, when we get to do some trigonometry and calculus. I tend to take things slowly, approaching concepts from multiple angles, until we get the idea to click. From there, we can do a few exercises. First together, step by step, reasoning through every line, then without any guidance to check for understanding. Sometimes we uncover some foundation that is missing and the topic in question goes on hold in order to catch up with the skills we need. I like to keep lessons between 45 and 60min long, but if there is engagement and will, I'm happy to extend the practice time! I have been tutoring for a couple years as a volunteer, as well as through word of mouth, but always focused on sharpening my communication and teaching skills as opposed to making a buck.
