About Alice

I have tutored students in writing and history for 10+ years, ever since I finished my honours undergraduate degree in History and English at the University of Chicago. Since then, I have had an academic career in the UK, attaining my Master's and PhD in History at Oxford, and presenting and publishing my research internationally.

For the past three years, I have taught undergraduate History students at Oxford as a lecturer, tutor and TA. I was part of the core teaching staff of an Oxford college, where I not only taught students, but was also involved in the course administration and admissions processes for several years. Thus, I know what university admissions officers are looking for and have experience advising students on their applications and career choices.

As an American academic who has lived and worked in the UK for nearly a decade, I am qualified to teach academic writing in both British and American English, and I can also offer training for American exams like the SAT and GRE.

About the lesson

Tutoring students in writing is rewarding for me because everyone deserves to be able to communicate their ideas well. Writing is an essential skill for anyone who wants to have their voice heard, and being able to write fluently makes people want to hear what you have to say.

Send me your essays, or even just ideas for an essay, and I can help you through all steps of the process, including brainstorming, outlining, organisation, and proofreading. If you consistently have trouble writing essays, I can also provide techniques to battle procrastination and ways to organize your notes and ideas so that writing essays will be easier in the future.

I specialise in proofreading, university admissions and academic writing, with teaching aimed at adults, particularly at undergraduate and postgraduate level. I can also advise on structuring longer research projects, such as dissertations and theses.
