About Shivan
Hi, I’m Shivan - my birth name was Shivangi, but I only go by Shivan now! I'm a 2023 graduate from IIT (ISM) Dhanbad in Petroleum Engineering, and I’ve always enjoyed thinking about math not just as a subject, but as a way of solving problems and noticing patterns in the world around us. Over time I realized that I also really enjoy helping others understand it.
During my own preparation for JEE and through helping friends and juniors with their doubts, I discovered that many students struggle not because math is “too hard”, but because it’s often taught in ways that feel rushed or overly formula-focused. That experience shaped the way I approach teaching today.
I focus on helping students slow down, understand the logic behind concepts, and build confidence in their own problem-solving process. My goal isn’t just to help someone get the answer to a question, but to help them see how the question works so they can approach similar problems independently.
I’m a queer, non-binary tutor and I try to create a learning space that feels respectful, patient, and comfortable for students to ask questions without feeling judged. Curiosity and mistakes are both welcome in my classes because they’re an important part of learning.
I currently teach math for students in Classes 6–12 and also offer Math doubt-solving sessions for JEE Main and Advanced. My lessons are available online, and I also teach from my home in Delhi NCR.
If you’re looking for someone who will take the time to explain concepts clearly and work through problems with you step by step, I’d be happy to help.

My approach to teaching-
Math can feel intimidating when it’s taught as a list of formulas to memorize. I try to do the opposite. My focus is on breaking down tough ideas into simple patterns so that math starts to feel intuitive and logical.
I’m patient with questions and encourage students to ask about anything they don’t understand, even if it feels like a “basic” doubt. Often the biggest breakthroughs come from slowing down and rebuilding the underlying concept clearly.
How a typical class works-
Most classes follow a simple structure:
1. Quick check-in and doubt discussion – we start with any questions from homework, school lessons, or previous practice.
2. Concept building – I explain the key idea behind the topic using step-by-step reasoning and examples.
3. Guided problem solving – we work through problems together so students learn how to think through a question, not just memorize a method.
4. Independent practice – students try a few problems themselves while I guide them and clarify mistakes.
For JEE Main and Advanced doubt sessions, the focus is more on:
1. breaking down difficult problems
2. identifying patterns and shortcuts
3. understanding the strategy behind solving exam-level questions
Who my classes are for
I teach:
1. Math for Classes 6–12
2. JEE Main and Advanced Math doubt sessions
3. Students who want stronger conceptual clarity and problem-solving skills.
Classes are currently online, and I can also teach from my home in Delhi NCR.
My goal is to help students feel more confident approaching math problems and to show them that with the right way of thinking, the subject can actually be enjoyable.
