About Devon

Hi! I’m Devon. I’m currently completing my Bachelor of Health Sciences at Queen’s University and pursuing a future career in medicine. Before returning to university full-time, I spent four years dancing professionally with a ballet company in Alberta while completing my degree alongside my career.

I graduated from Magee Secondary School’s SPARTS program, designed for students balancing academics with elite-level athletic and artistic training. I received the program’s Academic Achievement Award for the highest average in Grades 9–12, earned 100% in Grade 12 Biology, received the SFU Math 11 Award, and scored a 33 on the ACT. I was also accepted to McGill, U of T, and Queen’s with entrance scholarship offers.

I have several years of experience teaching and mentoring young people through Arts Umbrella, Edmonton School of Ballet, and Ballet Edmonton. I’ve also received recognition including the McCall MacBain Cultural Leadership Award and BC Arts Council Scholar Award.

Above all, I want students to feel capable and confident. I understand what it’s like to balance academics with a demanding schedule, and I love helping students make challenging material feel manageable and hopefully even exciting!

About the lesson

My approach to tutoring is supportive, individualized, and focused on building genuine understanding and confidence. I want students to leave a lesson not only knowing how to answer a question, but understanding why the answer makes sense!

I offer tutoring in biology and general science for middle and high school students, as well as support with study skills, organization, and test preparation. Lessons are tailored to the individual student and might include breaking down challenging concepts, working through practice questions together, preparing for an upcoming test, or developing more effective ways to study and retain material.

As both an experienced teacher and professional ballet dancer, I understand that students learn differently and often have a lot competing for their time. I especially enjoy working with student-athletes, dancers, and other busy students who are balancing academics with demanding extracurricular commitments.

My goal is to create a positive, encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and ultimately becoming more independent and confident learners.
