About Grace

Dear students,

My name is Miss Tiffin. I am half Filipina, half English, and I'm originally from the North-East of England. I have a law degree and worked as a commercial solicitor in the UK for 2 years. Unfortunately, I didn't love law with my whole heart, and so in 2010, I retrained as Primary teacher and can honestly say that it's the best job in the world!

For the last 11 years, I've worked in British international schools all over the world including Qatar, Brunei, Switzerland, Sweden and the Philippines. During the pandemic, I taught my Year 6 class online from a surfing island in the Philippines. That's when I decided to leave the classroom and become an online tutor. I now do the job I love from anywhere in the world. If I'm nearby, we can meet for face-to-face classes. Otherwise, lessons will be online.

In my last post at the British School Manila, I was head of Year 6 as well the English Leader from Primary. It was my job to foster a love of writing across our school and to raise progress and confidence in writing. This lead me to offer writing lessons with Miss Tiffin's Tales.

It's always difficult to choose a teacher whom you haven't met. So, why not book a free class? We can meet, chat and write together. If you enjoy it, you can book more sessions. If it's not for you, I'll be happy to suggest materials and resources for home study.

About the lesson

I teach my classes online or face-to-face, depending on location and preference. Using pictures and film clips, I aim to boost imagination and inspire a true love of writing in all students. I focus upon sentence and grammar practise, vocabulary enrichment, creative writing and poetry. Lessons will be planned in advance and will be personalised to suit student needs and interests. There will be a baseline assessment during the first class and then a review assessment after the first 10 lessons to assess progress and consider next steps.

I have 11 years of teaching experience, mostly in British international schools around the world. I now work as a full-time tutor, writer and educational trainer for Miss Tiffin's Tales. My lessons are aimed at students aged between 8 and 11.
