My Approach as a Tutor Teaching Method and Techniques I believe that effective teaching begins with understanding how each learner processes information. I adopt a learner-centered approach, tailoring my method to suit individual needs, strengths, and learning styles. I use a combination of: Scaffolded instruction: breaking concepts down into manageable steps. Socratic questioning: encouraging learners to think critically and arrive at answers independently. Active recall and spaced repetition: reinforcing knowledge over time for long-term retention. Real-world application: connecting theory to practice, which is particularly effective for learners who benefit from context-based learning. For learners with additional needs, I incorporate visual aids, chunked information, structured routines, and assistive technology, ensuring accessibility and inclusivity in every session. A Typical Lesson Plan A typical lesson would follow this structure: Recap and Check-In (5 minutes) A quick review of previous learning and a personal check-in to assess the learner’s mood and readiness. Learning Objectives (5 minutes) Setting clear, achievable goals for the session. Instruction and Exploration (20–25 minutes) Delivery of new content through explanation, modeling, and discussion—engaging the learner in guided practice. Independent or Supported Practice (10–15 minutes) The learner applies the concept with gradually reduced scaffolding. Reflection and Review (5–10 minutes) A summary of what has been learned, feedback from both tutor and learner, and target-setting for next time. Optional Homework or Challenge Task If appropriate, I provide a consolidation task or prompt for further thought. What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor Empathy and patience: I create a supportive environment where learners feel safe to make mistakes and grow. Adaptability: I am quick to adjust my teaching style to meet changing needs, including for neurodiverse learners. Evidence-informed strategies: I draw on up-to-date educational research to shape my teaching. Clear communication: I explain complex topics using accessible language and relatable analogies. Professional experience: With a background in both education and science I’m able to teach and differentiate effectively across a range of abilities. Who the Lessons Are For My tutoring is suitable for: Primary students needing confidence building and consolidation of key concepts. GCSE students needing support for exam preparation, or confidence-building. Adult learners or professionals pursuing further qualifications or needing a refresher in specific areas.
