About Sophie

I am a fully qualified primary teacher with a First-Class degree in Sociology and a Distinction in my PGCE. I offer tutoring up to GCSE level, combining strong subject knowledge with a supportive and patient teaching style. With experience in both mainstream and SEND settings, I specialise in helping children develop emotional regulation alongside academic progress. My goal is to build confidence, motivation, and a love of learning in every student I work with.

About the lesson

My approach is highly tailored: sessions may focus on filling knowledge gaps, practising essay planning and writing, or developing practical exam and revision strategies. I use a range of teaching techniques, including scaffolding complex concepts, retrieval practice to strengthen memory, and building personalised study guides to condense and consolidate key knowledge.

Alongside academic progress, I place strong emphasis on emotional regulation, helping students to manage stress, build resilience, and develop positive learning habits. This might include teaching strategies for focus and concentration, breaking tasks into manageable steps, and using reflection to build confidence and intrinsic motivation. I regularly review prior learning to reinforce understanding, while ensuring each session is structured to the individual’s needs and goals. Supportive, patient, and encouraging, I aim to create a learning environment where students feel safe, capable, and motivated to succeed.

In addition, I also offer tutoring at primary level, supporting children with early literacy, numeracy, and wider curriculum subjects. With my classroom experience, I can provide engaging and structured sessions that build strong foundations in key skills, while also supporting confidence, independence, and emotional regulation at this crucial stage of learning.
