About Lana

Qualified Japanese Teacher | Beginner Japanese & High School Japanese Support | Lived in Japan

Hello! I’m a qualified Australian Japanese teacher with over 4 years of experience teaching high school Japanese students. I hold a Bachelor of Languages majoring in Japanese and a Master of Teaching and Learning.

I also lived and studied in Hakodate, Hokkaido at Hokkaido University of Education, where I developed real-life Japanese communication skills and a deeper understanding of Japanese culture and daily life.

I specialise in beginner Japanese and high school Japanese support.

As an English speaker who has learnt Japanese as a second language myself, I understand the challenges students commonly face when learning Japanese. I know how overwhelming grammar, kanji, sentence structure, and speaking confidence can feel in the beginning because I have personally experienced the learning process too. As a qualified teacher, I can explain language concepts clearly in English and teach them using effective strategies developed through my teaching qualifications and classroom experience.

My lessons can help students develop:
• speaking confidence
• grammar understanding
• hiragana, katakana, and kanji skills
• reading, writing, listening, and speaking abilities
• effective study and revision habits

About the lesson

My lessons are structured, supportive, and personalised to each student’s goals and learning style. I focus on creating lessons that are clear, encouraging, and enjoyable while helping students steadily build confidence.

As a qualified classroom teacher, I can also support students who:
• need help catching up at school
• want to improve confidence in Japanese class
• are preparing for assessments or exams
• struggle with grammar or kanji
• want extra speaking and listening practice

I especially enjoy helping beginners realise that Japanese is much more achievable than they first thought.

Lessons may include:
• personalised worksheets and revision materials
• speaking and conversation practice
• kanji support
• structured lesson slides
• homework and revision guidance if requested
• personalised vocabulary revision resources created after lessons to help students review and retain new language

I aim to create a calm and supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and learning at their own pace.
