About the lesson

I am a qualified Primary Teacher and Teacher of the Deaf. I have worked as a mainstream
teacher and am presently working with Deaf and hearing impaired Primary children in a
mainstream setting. I have also 15 years experience in Secondary education working with
children at all levels (GCSE and Entry Level certificates)I have also worked previously as a
private maths tutor for GCSE students. I feel passionately that all children should have a
chance to reach their full potential and that for many this is supported best by 1 : 1 tutoring
rather than by regular class teaching.

Many children find classroom learning challenging due to the teacher to child ratio or to
the class environment. Private tutoring gives children the chance to explore their own
potential in a controlled way, where they are free to ask questions and interact fully with
their teacher.

I work on a daily basis with children that find Maths work challenging, but I enjoy finding fun
and interesting ways to bring this subject to life and to help children feel more positive
about mathematics in general.

I enjoy teaching Primary and Secondary mathematics to GCSE. I have 2 sons myself in
Secondary and Primary school so have not only have a teacher's perspective but a parents!
I know how hard it is for parents to work with their children at home!

As maths is often not seen as a 'cool' subject, pupils can work discretely at home and
not be embarrassed about peer pressure..I have worked with several GCSE students that
did not want to fully participate in lessons for fear of ridicule..in private tuition sessions
they can aim high without fear..
