About Kate
I am a qualified secondary school teacher with a BSc in Biomedical & Biological Sciences and a Master’s in Education. I have experience teaching Math, Science, Biology and Special Education at secondary level, including the Irish curriculum and IB programs, as well as experience teaching students with a range of abilities and learning needs.
My professional journey has taken me from teaching English in Ireland and Jordan to working with First Nations children in remote Queensland, Australia, and supporting individuals in mental and emotional crisis during the COVID-19 pandemic. These experiences have deepened my understanding of the diverse challenges and opportunities that shape young people's lives and have influenced my approach to teaching. I am committed to fostering inclusive, supportive learning environments where students feel empowered to grow in confidence, develop resilience, and achieve their potential.
I have teaching experience in Ireland, the United States, the UAE and Australia, and I am about to begin a teaching role at a leading IB school in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

I take a student-centered and supportive approach to tutoring, adapting each lesson to the student’s individual level, learning style and goals. I believe students learn best when they understand why something works rather than simply memorizing procedures, so I focus on building strong foundations, explaining concepts clearly and developing confidence alongside subject knowledge.
For Math, I break complex problems into manageable steps and use worked examples, questioning and guided practice to help students develop their problem-solving skills. I identify gaps in understanding and revisit key concepts where necessary, while gradually encouraging students to work independently.
For Biology, I focus on developing genuine understanding of biological concepts and helping students make connections between topics. I use diagrams, real-world examples, questioning and exam-style questions to reinforce learning and develop students’ ability to apply their knowledge rather than simply recall facts. For exam preparation, I also focus on exam technique, answering questions effectively and identifying what examiners are looking for.
Lessons are typically 60 minutes, although I can adapt the length depending on the student’s age, level and requirements. Each lesson is structured around a clear learning goal, with time for explanation, practice and feedback.
I offer tutoring for students from approximately ages 12–18, including Junior Cycle/secondary-level students and students preparing for Leaving Certificate or IB examinations. I can support students who are looking to strengthen their foundations, improve their grades, prepare for exams or simply become more confident in Math or Biology.
