About Clare

- What kind of experience do you have? Extensive field experience in London and Italy. Currently teaching English and Academic Writing at a City of London school. I also tutor IELTS, Cambridge Advanced, GCSE and A Level privately and teach business English on a private and agency basis. All my exam candidates achieved well last year and have progressed to the sixth forms and universities of their choice. This year my IELTS candidate scored 7.0 and my summer exam timetable includes OET, IELTS and Cambridge Advanced. My adult students describe me as a 'great teacher' whilst my younger students appreciate my insight and understanding. - Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate? Yes. - Where and with whom did you train? I trained as a teacher with SKOLA Teacher Training, Star Street, London and with The Callan School, Oxford Street, London. I attained my BA (Hons) at King's College London and my MA (Professional Writing) at Falmouth University, the UK's Number 1 Arts University. - Do you belong to any professional organisations? The Writers' Guild - Tell me about some of your current students. A private candidate attained a high grade in A level Geography and has transferred to Sussex University. An EFL candidate successfully passed her IELTS exam and is now studying accountancy at a London university. A GCSE English candidate attained the grade she needed to transfer to the prestigious sixth form of her choice and a current GCSE English Language and Literature candidate is progressing well in his studies with a target grade 1 level above his initial expected result. Currently, I am teaching at a private school in the City of London and undertake private business English and examination classes (IELTS, GCSE English Lang & Lit, GCSE & A level Geography, specialising in human Geography) I teach all nationalities.

About the lesson

I am an MA-qualified English as a Foreign Language subject specialist with teaching experience of GCSE & A Level English Literature and Geography. - Which subject(s) do you teach? English as a Foreign Language (all levels + exams, including IELTS), English & Geography GCSE & Geography A Level. - Tell me about your qualifications. An MA in Professional Writing (covering non-fiction, business & fiction), a BA (Hons) 2:1 in Geography, and an RSA/UCLES Certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language to Adults. - How much do you charge? £25/hour for English as a Foreign Language £25/hour + for IELTS and other EFL exams £30/hour for GCSE & A level exams £30/hour for Business English - Where do you teach? I will travel to my students' homes in the following areas of London: Balham, Clapham, Tooting, Streatham, Wandsworth, Wimbledon & central London. Previously, I have also travelled to Blackheath and will occasionally undertake 'out of town' work (e.g. Tonbridge, Brighton) if travel expenses are paid and the classes can fit in my timetable. - When are you available? Currently looking to fill: From July 2019: Tuesday, 2-3pm, Thursday, 2-4.30pm, Friday, 2-3pm - Which ages and levels do you teach? I teach all ages, from 5 to 90! - Which qualifications do you prepare your students for? I teach the full range of Cambridge English (EFL) Exams, Trinity College (EFL), IELTS, GCSE and A Level - Describe your arrangements for online tutoring. Available to teach Business English on Skype. Before the course starts, I'll conduct a needs analysis to gauge exactly what you are looking for and give you an indication of how I'll deliver. For EFL courses, I like to use a course book but may provide supplementary material or use online resources (videos, listening comprehensions etc). For GCSE and A level studies, I generally use past papers, specifications and marking schemes, course textbooks, the best pass notes, online sources and creative exercises to draw out character or literary characteristics (in English). I also review the material that the student's teacher has provided as this can be comprehensive and simply requires a little applied study. I'll happily help you on the road to reaching your potential. Foreign languages spoken (to facilitate communication): Fluent Italian & French.
