About Kyle

I have over 10,000 hours of direct experience helping people with mental disorders navigate life. As a behavioral support worker my role is to understand the reasons behind an individual's behavior, and to help the person develop better ways to get what they want. I have been very successful in helping individuals in care to gain insight into their own disorders, seeing outcomes where individuals have been empowered to research and engage with their doctors on their mental illness.

While I respect psychiatrists and practicing psychologists; these fields spend a short amount of time with people with serious disorders, and often meet them in a formal setting where the sufferer is able to keep it together for the short appointment. As a behavioral support I've been with them through crisis cycles, suicide attempts, highs, lows, grief counseling, break-ups, major health upsets and even impending death.

About the lesson

I can provide insight from actual experience on how to help people with disorders to experience less distress, as well as how to diffuse/change behaviors that are distressing. If you are studying psychology but would like real-world firsthand examples of disorders like schizophrenia, disassociative disorder,oppositional defiant disorder, fetal alcohol spectrum disorder, organic brain damage, Tourettes, PTSD, or other common disorders caused from institutionalized care, I can help you to gain insight into what a person is thinking/feeling and how to help them.

If you're a person suffering with one of the disorders above, I can offer you insight into ways that have helped other people understand, cope with, and in some cases resolve those disorders.

I take a person-centric model instead of a behavior-centric model in my work and in what I share as a tutor. I can teach some cognitive behavioral therapy tools, as well as reframing tools to help you see what the root needs are behind unsuccessful behavior. When people are able to meet their needs without resorting to regretful or risky behaviors they are empowered and can make better and safer decisions.

I prefer a question / answer format, instead of lecturing. I can also send a follow-up message via email or text if you like.
